Mönchengladbach, January 13, 2026 – Primobius, a solutions provider and plant builder for industrial lithium-ion battery recycling plants and part of the SMS group, has successfully completed the audit for inclusion in the SMS group’s multisite ISO certifications. The audit, conducted by TÜV Rheinland at the end of 2025, confirms that Primobius meets the requirements of the international standards ISO 9001 (quality management), ISO 14001 (environmental management), and ISO 45001 (occupational health and safety).
By integrating into the existing management system of SMS group GmbH, Primobius demonstrates that it operates with clearly structured and reliable processes that are regularly reviewed and continuously improved. The multisite certification covers, among other areas, Primobius processes in technology development, sales, project execution, engineering, and commissioning, as well as the SMS group corporate campus in Mönchengladbach.
This inclusion in the ISO certifications underscores Primobius’ commitment to the highest standards in quality, environmental responsibility, and occupational safety. For customers and partners, the certification provides increased transparency, clearly traceable project steps, and a proven high standard of quality, environmental, and safety management. It strengthens the foundation of trust for long-term partnerships and the execution of complex plant engineering projects in lithium-ion battery recycling.
“The successful audit is an important step for Primobius,” says Dr. Michel Siemon, CEO of Primobius GmbH. “It demonstrates that we deliver our projects not only on a technological level, but also on a stable, internationally audited organizational basis. This creates additional security for our customers and reinforces our claim to be a reliable partner in industrial battery recycling.”
The next step will be regular surveillance audits conducted as part of the multisite certification. In addition, Primobius is working on further improvements in quality and HSE management, particularly with regard to international customer projects and the expansion of its global presence. The goal is to continuously develop the certification standards and extend them to future sites and business units.
The successful audit strengthens Primobius’ position as a reliable partner for OEMs, cell manufacturers, and industrial companies that rely on sustainable, scalable, and industrially proven battery recycling solutions.
Primobius provides end-to-end solutions and builds battery recycling plants for the efficient recycling of lithium-ion batteries – a sector of growing importance amid rising global demand for energy storage. Primobius’ recycling plants meet high quality, environmental, and occupational safety standards. They enable operators to recover critical battery metals such as lithium, nickel, and cobalt in high purity from a wide range of cell chemistries, designs, and formats, and reintroduce them into battery supply chains. As a legally independent subsidiary of SMS group, Primobius benefits from global resources, extensive engineering expertise, and an international network.
