Düsseldorf, Germany, 20 May 2025 – Metalshub, the leading software for digitalising raw materials trading in the metals and mining industry, is pleased to announce that Primobius GmbH, an end-to-end solutions provider in lithium-ion battery recycling, has joined its ecosystem. Primobius focuses on providing advanced recycling solutions to support a circular economy for battery materials. This collaboration marks an important step towards enhancing digital innovation and commercial transparency in the black mass market.

As part of this partnership, Primobius will sell volumes of black mass through Metalshub, produced exclusively at its research facility in Hilchenbach, North Rhine-Westphalia. By participating, Primobius gains insights into the platform and demonstrates its value to its recycling partners. In addition, Primobius facilitates Metalshub’s introduction to other black mass producers for whom it builds recycling facilities, helping them access digital tools to simplify commercialisation and foster traceable, auditable supply chains.

“Our customers are increasingly seeking effective ways to commercialise black mass in a market that remains opaque and fragmented. Metalshub offers a reliable platform for price discovery and secure transactions. It is an essential tool for navigating this complex landscape.” states Dr. Michel Siemon, CEO of Primobius

“We are pleased to welcome Primobius to Metalshub,” says Dr. Frank Jackel, Co-Founder and Managing Director of Metalshub. “This engagement illustrates the increasing demand for digital solutions in the recycling segment of the battery value chain. Our goal is to support black mass producers by providing efficient market access and greater commercial transparency.”

As battery recycling becomes a critical component of the energy transition, the black mass market is gaining strategic relevance. With this cooperation, Metalshub and Primobius aim to empower recyclers with tools that align with sustainability goals and evolving regulatory requirements.
